TOP performing BMW dealers from across Malaysia received awards for their achievements in 2009 at the BMW Malaysia Dealer Trophy Night recently.

The awards at the ceremony, held at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur, were presented by BMW Group Malaysia managing director Geoffrey Briscoe.

Briscoe, in his speech, said: “Due to the state of the global economy, the year 2009 was a challenging year for the automotive industry both in Malaysia and abroad.

“However, we at BMW Group Malaysia were still able to report record sales for all of our cars in the Malaysian market with a total of 3,564 BMW vehicles and 214 Minis sold.

“Our success in the year was also marked with the fact that we grew to 40% in the premium segment of the Malaysian automotive industry which is an important step forward in our presence here.”

Briscoe added that the successful year was also mainly due to its 14 strong 4S (Sales, Service, Systems and Spare parts) dealership network that have been working continuously in ensuring that the BMW brand went from strength to strength.

“The BMW Group Malaysia Dealer Trophy Night is our way of thanking our network of dealers for all their hard work, patience and perseverance in helping us continue to be successful in Malaysia.

“It is also our way of celebrating our success for the past year as well as motivating our dealers to be the best! Not just in selling cars but in all areas of the business of representing the BMW brand which also includes business sustainability, market share growth and excellent customer service as well as after-sales service.

“These are all crucial elements in today’s premium automotive business.” said Briscoe.

The evening saw Ingress Auto Sdn Bhd which is located at the prime thoroughfare of Jalan Damansara take home the Platinum Award Category for dealerships that have a sales turnover of more than 200 cars per annum.

First and second runners-up in the category were Auto Bavaria Sungai Besi and Auto Bavaria Bukit Bintang respectively.

The Gold Award Category for dealerships that have an overall sales turnover of fewer than 200 cars per annum saw Auto Bavaria Kota Kinabalu walk away champions.

Malacca-based Seong Hoe Premium Motors came in second and Kedah based BMW dealership, Lee Motors Auto Care took third place.

Lee Motors Auto Care also won a worldwide award for Excellence in Sales.

The award is an international accolade by BMW Group AG to reward and encourage outstanding on-the-ground initiatives among all its dealerships worldwide.

The dealership will go on to compete with 700 of the best BMW dealerships in 21 countries at the BMW Group Sales Excellence awards in Munich on March 22

BMW DIESEL FUELLING PROTECTION SYSTEM

Intelligent technology prevents far-reaching consequences of mis-fuelling
BMW is the first car manufacturer to equip all new diesel-powered models with an Diesel Fuelling Protection
System as standard equipment. The innovative system helps prevent cases of misfuelling at the pump and its
far-reaching consequences. A special mechanism fitted to the filler neck prevents drivers from accidentally
inserting the fuel filler nozzle of a standard unleaded petrol pump into the filler neck of a diesel-powered car. This
technology has been tried-and-tested in a variety of BMW models with diesel engines and is fitted to all dieselpowered
BMW models from Model Year 2009, including the 320d, 520d, X3 xDrive20d, X5 xDrive30d and the
730Ld now on sale in the Malaysia, right from the factory.

Every year, the German Automobile Association has to provide technical support in more than 5,000 cases of
diesel misfuelling. Rectifying the consequences of incorrect fuelling is not just time consuming, it may also
involve major costs. Even if the driver realizes their mistake before starting the engine, emptying and cleaning the fuel tank, pipes and the pump as well as changing the filter will be unavoidable.
The high number of cases of misfuelling shows that just a short moment of inattention suffices to select thewrong fuel filler nozzle at the filling station. Particularly drivers who frequently use different cars from rental
companies or company fleets often have to pay extra attention – more so, since the performance profile and
acoustic insulation measures of modern diesel engines reduce the differences between diesel and petrolpowered
engines to a minimum. The difference in fuel filler nozzle diameter often prevents accidentally filling
petrol engines with their narrower filler neck with diesel fuel, but during hasty filling manoeuvres, the filler nozzle
for unleaded petrol can easily and mistakenly be inserted into the filler neck of standard diesel models.
However BMW will help drivers to avoid making this costly mistake. The Diesel Fuelling Protection System fitted
to all BMW diesel-powered models is designed to allow only filler nozzles for diesel fuel to enter the filler neck.
The filler neck of these models is fitted with a locking system that can only be released by a standardized diesel
filler nozzle. An unleaded petrol nozzle with its smaller diameter cannot make the same connection and its
access is blocked.
